From Tohoku region, I took more than 300 photos and directly interviewed more than 100 people. I don’t even know where to start, but for now I’ll start updating stories under the category, “Voice of a Survivor.”
The photo above is evacuated people I met at the shelter. The Woman right side, in front of her, her husband was washed away by Tsunami. He had crutches both legs and could not run….so she lost him….
I will write each person’s story.
Those people said they would be happy to receive UP’s volunteers when they move to temporary housing too! Since it is temporary housing, I don’t know if I will send volunteers there, but I am planning volunteers to visit them as a house visit, so it will be such a great opportunity for UP volunteers to interact with those victims of Tsunami…
Please look forward to updates.
Best regards,
Chie

[…] I came to Tohoku one week ago to meet with Chie Goto, the Japan Coordinator for Boston based NPO United Planet. As revealed in the mission statement on their web site, United Planet “strives to create a world in which all people understand, respect, and support one another”. I wanted to see exactly how UP had responded to the earthquake and what volunteer programmes it was looking to establish in Tohoku, especially with the emphasis on providing support for those who had experienced the disaster. The stories of those affected by the tsunami are documented by Chie-san on her blog. It is an insightful and sad record of the human cost of the disaster – https://gotochie.wordpress.com/voice-of-a-survivor/ […]
